Monetizing your Blog

Ok so now you have good quality content on your blog and you now have good quality visitors from all the traffic you are getting but you are not making money?? Well it is not gonna fall off the trees like we would like so I will tell you of a few ways to make Moola (money) from your website.

So let`s turn all that traffic into Money…Google Ad sense is an easy way make money online. If you visit Google Adsense.com you will get a complete run down of the program that they offer. Once your visitors have finished reading your blog they will probably leave and if you have a strategically placed Ad that is relevant and what they like they will click onto that link. So in order to place your Google ads in the right places, and so that they look more like links and not like advertisements consult the Google Ad sense support page to see the heat map of your blog, which is where you can see where the most activity is.

Once your Google account is up and running you can change the colours of your Ad texts and links. What you really want to do is get them to match your website so that they don’t stand out but look part of the blog.

Affiliate Marketing as done with Clickbank.com can also be implemented on your blog. You can post other peoples products onto your blog and in return if the customer buying that product you get a commission. You can either write a review on that product if that’s what your blog is about or you can place logo`s or banners on your blog/website with an appropriate link to their website.

If your visitor clicks and purchases the product, the merchant will track from the link that the purchase is referred by you, so they will send you your share of the profits. Imagine if 1 out of every 100 visitors you get purchases this product, and you earn $34.00 commission from each purchase! If you get 10,000 visitors a month you would earn $3,400.00 for writing about ONE product or having and displayed. Ha ha Now I’ve got your attention.

So before you run off I need to tell you were to find affiliate programs related to your Niche, just go to Google and search for +”affiliate programs”. Another way is to go to affiliate programs.com to look for affiliate programs in your niche.

Other ways to monetize your blog is to use other advertising companies like Chitika (www.chitika.com). Chitika is a very innovative contextual advertising program because it can serve very detailed advertisements for you particular product.

Another way is to become affiliates to the likes of Amazon, with Amazon you can target your specific niche or you can send traffic to the main website and receive a 10% referral fee.

The ultimate prize in monetizing you blog is to get lots of page reviews a day so in other words lots and lots of traffic. If you get 10 000 visitors a day you could approach companies and selling advertising space on your blog. Popular blogs like these www.pharside.co.uk and www.2oceansvibe.com attract a vast amount of traffic so they can sell advertising space.

If your blog has not acquired large amount of visitors yet, you can still sell ad space on your blog on a, per click or per impression basis. Just visit sites like www.adbrite.com.

To view the amount of traffic to your website I recommend you visit this site www.statcounter.com there you will be able to see how many visitors per day you had and the duration the stayed on your site. There are various other options you can get from that site that will help you in your venture to a wealthy blogging career.

Traffic-Traffic-Traffic

Traffic is the bloodline and life of your blog. In order to attract people, you must offer attractive information.
However the trick here is to think in reverse gear…what am I getting at?? Well…The most common place to get information on the www is at the search engines right? So you will head off to places like google.com, yahoo.com, bing.com, alexa.com the list goes on hey… So in order for the millions of visitors to the www to see your blog you need to rank high in the search engines for them to find you.

Now in order to get a high ranking you need to learn a few tricks of the trade, those being ON PAGE SEO… (Search Engine Optimization) and OFF PAGE SEO. Now this can be a hard a complex subject to master but that’s why you are here right…to learn the basics…which I shall teach you in no time.

On Page SEO:

This is basically using certain keywords in your blog title and other parts of your blog/website, so when someone Google`s a certain topic you want your blog to come up first. .Take Blogspot.com for instance at the time of writing this article it had a search index of 358,000,000, now what are the chances of beating that at your first attempt?
You need to find a key word with high search listings and have them in your Blog, if you can get it into your title then you are already half way there…You can change the title of your blog in the blogger control or with wordpress when you are creating your blog. Try and mention that same keyword in your blog 3-5 times if possible and the reason I say if possible is coz if the search engines think you are spamming(by putting that keyword in every 2nd sentence) they will drop your rankings…Don’t forget you are writing to people not search engines.

If you know how to use HTML you can use this on other blogs aswell. So word of advice… learn a little HTML it can`t hurt can it? And it will defo help you in the long run.

Other than that, your page heading should also contain the term you’re optimizing for. The page heading is the bit of text in your code that is enclosed within the <h1 and /h1 tags. This is important as it tells the search engines what your page is about (“your blog title” “Keyword you using”). Since we’re posting a blog, the

tags are usually the post titles, so remember to include the term there whenever relevant.

Off Page SEO:

Ok so now we’re moving and on to Off Page search engine optimization. These are factors that are not on your blog but affect your search engine rankings a vast amount. There are many factors to Off Page SEO but the most important one I think is the amount of links to your blog or website.

The more links to your blog, the more the search engines think you are an authority in that particular niche and hence the higher they rank you. However it is also the quality of links to your website and not just the number, so try get links from relevant blogs/websites in your niche and not dating/gambling sites as these have no relevance to your knowledgeable blog. Unless your blog is about how to find the best man/woman, or how to cheat the casinos?
Bottom line is to have good quality content that is original with quality info then approach respectable sites and ask them to add your links… you of course will add theirs in return. Now it’s essential to put a lot of thought in, when requesting links from other webmasters as you want them to link to your blog with appropriate keywords. Example…Use the same sort of keywords that would relate to your blog/website.

OK, moving on swiftly, we are now gonna talk about Google`s page rank system. All this is , is a scale in which Google ranks websites. You can get the full down low on this at http://www.google.com/technology/. So in a nutshell the higher the page rank of a website the more often Google`s Spider/Robots will index it, so with a higher page rank you in turn get a higher search engines result.

Getting high-quality links to your blog will help direct targeted visitors who are interested in your niche to your blog, thus enabling search engines to find you faster and index your blog which will ultimately rank you higher in page rank and search engines.

You can also utilize the “blog and ping” technique that everyone’s talking about. Basically, when you update your blog, you can let blog portals such as www.technorati.com know by pinging them. You can ping a lot of portals at once by using the free www.pingomatic.com.

Other ways to get links and traffic to your websites will be to turn your blog submissions into articles and submit them to as many article directories as you can, you will of course have links directing them back to your blogs and websites. Some good article directories to get you started: www.eZineArticles.com , www.ultimatearticledirectory.com , www.submityourarticle.com

Join forums my friend… another great way to interact and get your name out there, if you have the time of course… but if you are serious about making blogging your new job then I suggest you make the time and join lots of forums related to your blog/website.

Besides the techniques described here, there are also paid methods like buying links from high-ranking pages or buying banner advertisement space. A thing to keep in mind when buying paid traffic is to always weigh your profits generated from the paid ads. If your profits do no offset the expense, you will end up losing money, so choose wisely.

If you have anything to add kindly let me know and I will “quote” it in my next post with your relevant links of course. Next I will be speaking about how to make money from your blog or as they say…Monetize it…

Part 2: Blog Brainstorming

Ok so the rules for blog content are….there are no rules and there are no limitations to what you can write, obviously you dot want to go insulting people or writing bad things about people or organizations coz that will just lead to bad press and bad remarks for your blog, or you may even get it shut down in serious cases…

Now there are differences in a profitable blog and a non-profitable blog. Ok so I want you to think back to the days of school and university…ok come back it`s not that long ago… ;-) Your professor wasn’t exactly the most exciting person was he or she…unless you had Miss….um ok sorry I`m back…the point I`m trying to make is you would rather read something from your best novel/favourite author than the boring professor right? Well for most of us anyway…
Most people that will come and read your blog would like to read “soft” or “light” stuff. They are looking for info that can be easily obtained and easily absorbed not like the professors notes…Try be personal in your blogs to keep people coming back, use your humour on some if it`s justifiable, everyone loves t smile and laugh. Another thing you could use is free gifts, now I don’t always advise this but I don’t see anything wrong with giving your readers something for taking the trouble to reading your blog.

Make your blog personal as if it’s a one on one…don’t write it like you would a speech…you don’t want your visitors to think your of a higher authority but more of a personal friend.

Fresh topics need to be spoken about regularly to keep your readership high so spice things up. The very first option that I think a blogger should write on is a topic that he or she feels passionate and interested in. You’ve chosen to make blogging your career because you want to escape a mundane job – forcing yourself to write about something that you’re not interested in is as torturous as your mundane job! Not only will the topic keep you motivated to right your feelings and emotions will shine through. If you feel indifferent to a certain subject but still write about it just for the sake of it, your readers will notice it, just remember that.

Now the first few weeks will be testing but once you get into the swing of things and once you keep writing, more ideas will come flowing into your head and you blog will transform tremendously. What you can do is see what other bloggers are writing about and have conversations with them and or get ideas, now it`s not a good idea to copy and this can cause a lot of friction and not the good kind I tell you. You can find other bloggers here…www.technorati.com and www.blogsearch.google.com

Another way to get good content for your blogs is www.youtube.comwww.skynews.comwww.espn.com it`s all about what you are gonna be writing about. There are endless ideas out there.

A blog I visit quite regularly is www.pharside.co.uk it features this man…

And no he is not the messiah … its Marky Mark the blogger and ultra cool guy from www.pharside.co.uk , he has various types of content on his blog that keeps people coming back…. Not to mention the free gifts I spoke about…not that I’ve actually won or got anything… still a very good example!!!

Join forums to get to know more people, without even telling them about your blog the general curiosity on mankind will get them “checking you out” and soon they will ( after all my advice ) be hooked on your blog!!!
Remember to keep up your momentum of posting at least once per day (or more if you have a lot of content to write about) so that the major search engines will know that your blog has fresh content every day. This will attract the search engines to spider your page on a more frequent basis, hence gaining you extra traffic.

So go…run …get away and make me proud get those blogs going…

P.S send me the permalinks so I can read and comment on them…

Part 1: The Set Up

For some people blogging is a way of life, their source of income and this is very true. There are a number of ways to make money with blogs and the lifestyle that comes with it can be very relaxing and enjoying, I mean who wouldn’t want to just chill out at home or on holiday writing about their favourite topic and getting paid to do it. Yes some blogs make a lot more money than others do but that just depends on how hard you work and what market you are aiming at.

So in this article we are gonna discuss on where and how to set up your blog for FREE!! Ok now I know you are at the edge of your seat after seeing the word FREE coz we all like things for FREE right??

Ok, so now you are wondering where do I get a blog or how do I set it up? There are a number of different websites that do blogs for free…example being www.blogger.com which is owned by Google so it will be index a lot faster which is a good thing. The other main blog site is www.wordpress.com now a lot of people might say that wordpress.com is better than blogger which might be the case as it has a lot more advanced features, never the less they are both good ways to start off in the blogging world. There are also sites like www.myspace.com and www.travelpod.com that do free blogs but just have a look around at the features and see what you think, although I don’t think you will go wrong with the first 2 that I mentioned. Once you have progressed into an experienced blogger with alot of readers you might want to host your blog on your own domain name, the work involved is a lot more intense hosting and doing everything yourself but the rewards can be worth it.

Once you have signed up and you have you blog have a play around with the different options and templates so that your blog will suit your style more.

Ok so now once you have set up your blog here are some very important words that you need to learn about…

Number 1: Pinging… This is a great way to get traffic to your website…how you ask? Well pinging is the action used when a certain aggregator is notified when you blog is updated. This aggregator will use this to show your latest post on his website, so it is important to use good quality content as in time thousands of people may be reading your blog.

Number2: Permalink… no it`s nothing to do with your hair?? Don’t stress it`s easier than you think… Permalink stands for permanent link, which is a URL (uniform resource locator) that leads to an individual post that you make in your blog. So if you want someone to read a specific article then you can use this link to send them right there, boom bam easy as that.

Number 3: Trackback – When you post about someone else’s blog post elsewhere, your post will show up in their “trackback” section. This feature is not available with some blogs and can be vitally important to getting more traffic to your website…so make sure you check the features of the blog you choose.

Ok so you know what to do, where to go and what to look for so have fun and stop by soon for part 2….Blog Brainstorming.
Ill be baaacckkk…..
